On Monday 4th June we went to Skipton Castle. We couldn't believe how big the castle was. We acted out a feast, turned the lights off in the dungeons and found secret passages and winding stairs. It was a great first day back to school.

Today we performed our assembly showing our adults what we know about bees and castles. The children did a FANTASTIC job. Well done!

Today was our topic launch for Castles and Dragons. We had a creative day making crowns, shields and place mats. We learned a medieval dance that we performed to the Year 2 children. During the morning we made a medieval vegetable soup that we ate in the afternoon at our banquet. It was a lovely way to start our new topic. We all dresed up and looked FANTASTIC!

During Science week this year we learned all about bees. We described and compared different types of bees, we made life cycle wheels and learned how honey was made. We also made bees using paper plates. On Friday of Science week we were visisted by a beekeeper who told us all about keeping bees. We saw  bees in their hive, tasted the honey they make and tried on beekeeper clothes. We really enjoyed the week. At home we are now trying to grow the tallest sunflower!

Look at our EGGcellent entries to this year's egg competition. They were VERY hard to judge. Well done to everyone that entered.

We all looked fantastic in our character costumes. As part of the day we went to Miss Town's class and they came to our class to listen to a story by the teacher.

For sports relief we jogged 1 mile around our school grounds. It was very hard but we all did really well.

We learned French skipping games and plate spinning so we have more activites to try at playtimes.

Santander visited today and we talked about what a bank is and what they are used for. We found out banks have a huge safe that is opened with a huge key! We could ask lots of questions and then we drew what a bank might look like from our discussions. In the afternoon we wrote letters to Santander to ask for sponsership for our outdoor area. We will let you know if we get a reply!

Today we spent the afternoon in the orchard. We made a minibeast from clay and anything we could find in the orchard, we built a shelter for the minibeasts and tested to see how waterproof the shelter was. We filtered and purified water for our minibeasts and we searched for food to give them. Then we made a den for ourselves and finished with hot chocolate, popcorn and marshmellows that we cooked on the fire. It was a great afternoon!

During E-Safety Week we talked about the actions we can take if something happens or appears while we are online that upsets or worries us. In the ICT suite we practised quickly using the minimise button while browsing the internet for when we want to hide the screen quickly because something has upset or worried us. We then discussed how we would then speak to an adult we trusted to ask for help. Back in the classroom on E-Safety day we watched a video about three monsters that were upset by comments made online about their school poster. Again we discussed what the monsters could do in furture if any upsetting comments were made on posts they upload. We then created our own posters and made positive comments on each other's work. We decided that only nice, kind comments should be made online as our comments could upset others, even if we are joking.

Last week we performed our Nativity to our friends and family. We put so much effort into rehearsing our lines and singing our songs. We were very proud of ourselves and we hope you enjoyed the perfomance as much as we did.

We had a visit from a local theatre company who performed a Christmas pantomime for us in the school hall. They told the story of Christopher Nibbles saving Christmas for the residents of Dande Ville sfter they had had a power cut so Santa couldn't find his way.

The children enjoyed watching the show and some even took part.

We had a visitor who came to talk to us about keeping our teeth and gums clean and healthy. We had a special tablet which turned the plaque purple then had to brush our teeth to see just how long it would take to properly clean them.

We had lots of fun finding out about all the sugar in foods and guessing which were healthy and unhealthy for our mouths.

When we came into school today our classroom had been visited by some naughty dinosaurs who decided to explore our room. They left behind a trail of mess and we had to try and work out what had happened!

Last week Jenny came to teach us some flamenco dance steps. We performed the dance to the rest of school in the afternoon.

We were visited by some Massai Warriors who taught us about their culture and traditions. We learnt some dance moves and heard some traditional songs.
