PE

We will have PE twice a week. PE kits should be brought into school on a Monday and left in school until Friday

The children will need an indoor PE kit of white t-shirt and black or blue shorts and an outdoor PE kit of white t-shirt, blue or black jogging bottoms and top, and trainers.

Homework

Our homework is to:

  • read to an adult at home at least three times a week
  • practise spellings
  • access online maths activities (the children have not been introduced to these yet)

This will help to ensure the children make the best possible progress during their time in Year Two.

Reading at least three times a week, or daily if possible, will help the children to progress with their segmenting and blending of words and to develop fluency in their reading.

The spellings set for the children are linked to their current abilities and support their development in phonics, reading and writing. We test spellings on a Friday. Please return homework sheets on a Friday. If using the look, say, cover, write, check method is not suitable for your child, please feel free to learn and practise the spellings in a different way. Under the Phonics and Spelling tab below you will find a document with alternative suggested spelling activities. On the back of the spellings sheet, there is a section for writing the definition of words. This will be useful for children to get used to using a dictionary and understand the word class of the words. There is also a section for using the words in a sentence. This will help with their understanding of how to use the word correctly in their writing.

It is important for your child to be learning their spellings each week as it will help them with their phonetic application for both reading and spelling.

To support the children's mathematical development they have access to the online programs TTrockstars and Active Learn (the reading section of Active Learn is no longer available).

Additional homework will be set occasionally throughout the year. This will usually be linked to our topic.

Home Learning: Norovirus Outbreak 6.12.21 - 8.12.21

Work is set on Purple Mash. Go into the 2Dos when you log in to access Maths, writing and Art activities. Remember to continue to practise your spellings and read your school books every day please.

For those children struggling to access Purple Mash here is a description of the set tasks that you could complete on paper:

Maths: Practise telling the time to the whole hour. Clocks will come up on the screen that children need to write the correct time for. Children could draw and label times sticking to whole time hours, (O'Clock only).

Writing: The task is to write a newspaper report titled Santa Stuck! The children could do this on paper if they cannot access Purple Mash.

Art: Design a Christmas card using 2Simple Paint. Children can do this on paper, or even card if you have it, if you cannot access Purple Mash.

Any issues, please email your teacher directly.
