Year 1

PE: We will have PE each week. PE kits should be brought into school on a Monday and left in school until Friday. Please check the Weekly Newsletter for the day PE is planned for each week.
The children will need an indoor PE kit of white t-shirt and black or navy shorts and an outdoor PE kit of white t-shirt, navy or black jogging bottoms and top, and trainers.
Homework:
Our homework is to:
- read to an adult at home at least three times a week
- practise weekly spellings
- access online maths activities (the children have not been introduced to these yet).
This will help to ensure the children make the best possible progress during their time in Year One. Additional homework will be set occasionally throughout the year. This will usually be linked to our topic.
Reading: Reading at least three times a week, or daily if possible, will help the children to progress with their segmenting and blending of words and to develop fluency in their reading.
Spelling: The spellings set for the children are linked to their current abilities and support their development in phonics, reading and writing. We have a Spelling Quiz every Friday. Please return homework sheets on a Friday. If using the look, say, cover, write, check method is not appropriate for your child, please feel free to learn and practise the spellings in a different way. Under the Phonics and Spelling tab below you will find a document with alternative suggested spelling activities. On the back of the spellings sheet, it will be beneficial for the children to have a go at writing a sentence or two using the words. This will help with their understanding of how to use the words correctly in their writing.
