To Be The Best That We Can Be
Children who will be 4 years of age at the start of the academic year, which is the 1st of September each year, need to register with their Local Education Authority (your Local Authority is the area where you live regardless of the school you are applying for) in order to be allocated a school place.
We would be happy for you, to contact the school office for any information you require about the school, or the process of admission. Paper copies of the prospectus and an application form can be made available, but equally both can be found online.
All applications for places at Athelstan are handled by North Yorkshire Local Authority- who is the school's admission's authority - and you should apply through the online admissions portal. If you do not currently live within North Yorkshire you must make your application to your own local authority - but you can still name this school as a preference.
The school will be holding an Open Evening for families with children who will be eligible to start full time education in September 2023 on Thursday 3rd November November 2022 from 6pm.
Applications for September 2023 should be made via the NYCC admissions portal . The application round opens online from the October 12th 2022 and closes on the 15th January 2023 .
Please see letter below with more details of the application process
For school admissions information and access to an electronic application form, please use this link below to visit the School Admissions page of the North Yorkshire County Council website.
If you are moving your child to a new school either at the start of a new year or during the academic year then you will be asked to complete a NYCC mid year transfer form .
Athelstan Primary School has a maximum admission number of 60 children per year. That means we have 60 places in each year group, with the children split into two classes per year. If you wish your child to transfer to this school please contact North Yorkshire’s Local Education Office at Harrogate and complete the relevant transfer forms. It is not normal practice for a child to start at Athelstan until approval has been obtained from the Local Education Office.
New families are welcome to come and have a look around the school, please contact the school for more information and make an appointment through the school office.
Athelstan is a popular school in a vibrant and growing village so we frequently find year groups full or oversubscribed. If we have reached our maximum admission limit (60) then the Local Authority would normally refuse admission.
As parents or carers you have the right to appeal against the decision. You will need to contact the Harrogate Office who will send you details of how to appeal against the decision and guidance on the admissions criteria and appeals procedures. In certain circumstances the Local Authority will admit individuals even when the admissions number has been reached.
Y6 Children transitioning into Secondary School in September 2022 will receive information from the Local Authority about secondary place preferences at the start of the Autumn Term. Application for places open on the 12th September 2021 and the closing date for applications is the 31st October 2021.
