Welcome to Athelstan Primary School

We would like to welcome you to Athelstan  Community Primary School, a school we, and our community are justifiably proud of, as Ofsted stated in 2023 "The Athelstan vision ‘to be the best that we can be’ is at the heart of all this school has to offer. Leaders and staff have high expectations for pupils’ learning and behaviour. They are determined to make sure that pupils’ needs are met, both academically and pastorally" a statement we confidently believe reflects the passion we have to make our school the very best for our children and what we strive for everyday.  

If your family is joining us for the first time we welcome you and look forward to a happy and successful partnership with your family over the coming years. If you already have a child here, we will endeavour to strengthen our existing links with you in order to enable Athelstan to provide the best education possible for each of your children. 

Education is a partnership between home and school and we place a great deal of emphasis on our partnership with families. We believe that children learn best when home and school work collaboratively together. When your child starts school ,it is not the point where your job ends and ours begins, it is where we join together for the benefit of our children. Each child who joins us at Athelstan is an individual and their journey with us will be unique to them, but that journey will be all the richer and more successful with a strong mutually supportive home school partnership. 

Athelstan can offer so much to those who join our school community. Both the school's facilities and grounds are impressive ( with new build and refurbishment in 2017) and thus understandingly the envy of many other schools. Although a large two form entry school, with nursery provision for 2-4 year old children, we know that we have the largest primary school site in North Yorkshire enabling us to provide our children with more space and facilities than other schools. However we firmly believe that it is not just the wonderful learning environment that we offer our children which means Athelstan is an excellent learning environment, but the way "Every opportunity is taken to engage children’s interests and inspire them. In all areas of provision, children play and learn well together. Their engagement in their learning is exceptional.' Ofsted 2023.  This is seen in our inclusive ethos and rich curriculum which underpins all that the school does, that truly impacts the most on our children's successes. Our aspiration is for all our children to be able to lead confident , healthy and independent lives, making a valued contribution to society, we aim and strive through all aspects of school life for everyone to be the best that they can be. 

We hope that our website will show you the spirit of Athelstan and that you will see and understand that our children lie firmly at the heart of everything we do, we would also hope that you would be able to come and visit* Athelstan in order that you can experience for yourself the truly special atmosphere, caring ethos and great pride in which we hold our fantastic school.
