Please contact the Early Years Office if you would like to book a place in this provision for your child.
Direct contact number for use outside of school hours: 07759230454.
This provision operates in Term Time only. The Early Session opens at 7.30am and runs until the start of the school day/ nursery morning session. The Late Session begins at the end of the school day/ nursery afternoon session and, for most children, ends at 6.00pm (children using their Early Years funding to access the provision are offered an alternative, earlier, finish time of 5.30pm).
This provision is part of the main school structure at Athelstan and is under the remit of the normal school leadership team and governance. Direct day-to-day management of the provision is undertaken by Mrs Sampson, our Early Years Lead.
The staff working regularly within the provision are:
In the event of staff illness, cover will be provided by other school or nursery staff.

Details of our charges and invoicing procedure are set out in our Parental Booking Agreement, which you will be asked to sign before your child starts attending the provision.
To find out about our invoicing procedures, Parent Pay, and the methods of payment that we accept, please take a look at our Nursery FAQs.
If you have any queries about your invoices, please contact the Early Years Office.
Yes. All types of Early Years Funding can be used for any combination of sessions in Raindrops/Puddles and Rainbow Wraparound up to a total of 15 or 30 hours (as applicable). If your need provision beyond your funded sessions, we will charge for the additional provision.
To help you get the best use out of your Early Years funding and avoid unnecessary costs, we offer a reduced (2.5 hour) Late Session session (finishing at 5.30pm). This option is only available for sessions covered/ partly covered by this funding.
Please note that a maximum of 10 hours’ Early Years funding can be claimed per day. If your child attends a full day including the Rainbow Wraparound Early Session and the three hour Late Session, this will total 10.5 hours and the last half hour will be charged for.
Children cease to be eligible for Early Years funding when they start to attend a school reception class, meaning that this funding is not available to children in Sunshines.
Children in Raindrops and Puddles must book their Rainbow Wraparound sessions as part of their nursery provision.
Children in Sunshines will be sent an offer of wraparound provision when their place at Athelstan School is confirmed.
If you would like your child to start attending Rainbow Wraparound after they have taken up a place in our school or nursery, please contact our Early Years Office (01977 684037, Option 3, or e mail eyadmin@athelstan.n-yorks.sch.uk ).
For booking/ administration/ logistical queries please contact the Early Years Office during school hours (8.30am to 3pm). You can also contact the Early Years Office during the school day with any messages that need passing to the Rainbow Wraparound Late Session – e.g. a change to who will be collecting your child.
For direct contact during wraparound sessions, please contact Rainbow Wraparound directly on their mobile number: 07759 230454.
No. Once your child is attending Rainbow Wraparound, we assume that you will continue to require this provision until you tell us otherwise (giving notice as set out below – ‘how do I change or cancel my child’s sessions?’).
To help us plan ahead, at the start of the Summer Term each year we will ask the parents of the children already using the provision to confirm their requirements for the new academic year from September.
For children attending the provision but moving into Year 1, we will pass on parent contact details to Time Out before the Easter holidays. Time Out will then contact parents to discuss wraparound places for September.
Yes. Where spaces are available in a session, we can accept one-off bookings. Please contact the Early Years Office to enquire about booking a one-off session. One-off sessions cannot be booked more than a week in advance or after 2pm on the day that they are required (2pm on the day before for Early sessions).
If you would like to add wraparound sessions to your child’s attendance pattern, or alter (without reducing) the sessions they attend, please contact our the Early Years Office. We will do our best to accommodate your request, subject to availability.
If the changes you wish to make involve increasing the amount of Early Years funding you are using, the change will have to wait until the start of the following term if the term’s funding claim has already been submitted.
If you would like to reduce or cancel your child’s wraparound sessions, we require 4 weeks’ written notice.
Rainbow Wraparound is open every day that our school and nursery are open.
We ask that children do not attend the Early Session on their very first day in our school and nursery, to help them settle more easily.
In exceptional circumstances, we may have to close at short notice. In this (very rare) event we will contact all parents by text message and/ or e mail as soon as the closure has been confirmed. For any paid sessions that are missed due to such a closure, credit will be applied to your next invoice.
Only children attending Early Years (Raindrops, Puddles and Sunshines) at Athelstan Primary School may attend Rainbow Wraparound. On-site wraparound care for children in Years 1-6 at Athelstan is provided separately by Time Out.
All places are subject to availability. The number of places available in each session will be set termly, in accordance with demand, following the close of our termly nursery admissions rounds. Restrictions will be based on adult : pupil ratios. The maximum number of children that we can take on roll in any session is 32.
Where requests have been made for provision more than a term in advance, we cannot ‘hold places open’. Such requests will be processed as part of the termly admissions round.
In the event of over-subscription based on requests submitted before the close of the admissions round, we will prioritise as follows:
We cannot guarantee sessional availability until termly admissions rounds have closed and all sessional need has been calculated. Typically for the main September intake, we can complete this process and notify parents of spaces offered by mid-late May. Any requests received after the booking deadline will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Any waiting list will be ordered based on the above criteria.
Booking paperwork (our Parental Booking Agreement and Emergency Contact Form) must be completed and returned to us before a child starts Rainbow Wraparound. Once booking paperwork has been returned, families are committed to their booked sessions (this is set out in the Parental Booking Agreement).
Children with additional needs are welcome in the provision. Prior to the allocation of places, we will contact you to discuss the child’s individual needs, and reasonable adjustments will be made.
You can drop your child at the Rainbow Wraparound Early Session at any time from the 7.30am until 8.30am. Please bring them to the Puddles door and knock. If the Rose Avenue pedestrian gate is shut, please press the ‘Early Years Reception’ buzzer to be let in.
You can collect your child from the Rainbow Wraparound Late Session between 3pm and the end of your booked session (6pm in most cases – see above regarding the 5.30pm finish time available for funded sessions). However, we ask that you avoid arriving during tea time, 4.15-4.45pm, if at all possible.
To collect your child from the Late Session, please come to the Puddles door and knock. Rainbow Wraround staff will greet you, and bring your child out; they will let you know how your child has got on in the session.
Please don’t hesitate to ask the staff if you have any queries about your child at Rainbow Wraparound (e.g. whether they’ve eaten their tea, been to the toilet, what they’ve played with). However, queries relating to children’s days in school or nursery are usually better addressed by e mail (to their teacher/ room leader) or phone (please call the Early Years Office to request a call-back from their teacher/ room leader).
When they arrive, children hang up their coats and bags and are then offered a variety of breakfast options. Those arriving after 8.15am will be offered breakfast only if the parent tells staff that they’ve not yet eaten.
Children will then be encouraged to join in with the activities on offer, or to play independently with the resources which are out for the session. At the end of the session (8.30am) children will be taken to their classrooms.
At the end of the school day/ afternoon nursery session, children are brought to Rainbow Wraparound by a member of their classroom staff. They hang up their bags and coats and then have a drink and snack.
They are then are encouraged to join in with the activities on offer (e.g. crafts, baking, messy play, music and movement), or to play independently with the resources out for that session (e.g. simple board games, jigsaws, books and toys). TV and interactive games are also available, and children can use the Puddles outdoor area (weather permitting).
At 4.15pm, the children wash their hands before sitting down for tea (menus are shown on the weekly newsletter). After tea, children are encouraged to return to their play or activities.
If someone different will be collecting your child, please contact the Early Years Office (during school hours) or call the Play Leader directly on the Rainbow Wraparound mobile number (after school hours). If the person who will be collecting is not known to us, we will ask you for a password to be used on collection.
If the Play Leader has any doubt regarding the person collecting a child, the child’s parent/carer will be telephoned.
If you have been delayed and think that you will not arrive by the end of the session, please call the Play Leader on the Rainbow Wraparound mobile number.
Consistently late pick-ups incur extra costs in the running of the provision. Failure to collect on time will result in the application of a late collection fee of £5 for every half hour late or part thereof. Consistent failure to collect on time will result in the reallocation of places.
If a child remains uncollected at 6pm, and we have not heard from their parents, we will telephone the parent/carer named as Emergency Contact 1, followed (if necessary) by the other emergency contacts in order, leaving voicemails where possible if there is no answer. If we cannot reach the child’s emergency contacts, the Play Leader will inform a member of the school Senior Management Team and we will follow our Collection from School Policy.
If you know in advance that your child will not be attending one of their booked sessions, please contact the Early Years Office to let us know.
Messages given to Rainbow Wraparound staff will be passed on. However, if your child will be absent from school/ nursery (not just Rainbow Wraparound sessions), we ask that leave a message on our school absence line (01977 684037, Option 1) or e mail attendance@athelstan.n-yorks.sch.uk to let us know.
We do not make reductions to invoices for holiday/ sickness/ non-attendance. However a reduction may apply in cases of long term sickness absence (1 month). Please contact us if you need to discuss this.
If your child is not well enough to be at school/ nursery, please do not bring them to the Early Session. Please note that (as per guidance to schools from the UK Health Security Agency), children who have had sickness or diarrhoea should not come to school, nursery or wraparound provision for 48 hours following their final episode.
If your child becomes ill during a session, we will call the person named as Contact 1 in your booking paperwork, and ask them to collect your child as soon as possible. If that person cannot be contacted, the child’s other emergency contacts will be called, in order. We will keep your child comfortable and keep a close eye on them while we wait for collection.
If your child lets us know has a minor complaint during a Rainbow Wraparound session, but their overall wellbeing is not affected, we will monitor them for the rest of the session, and let you know when you collect them.
If your child gets hurt (e.g. as a result of a trip or bump) during one of our sessions, we follow the same procedures as in school/ nursery. We will give appropriate first aid and record the accident in duplicate. A copy of this record will be given to you when you collect your child, and the Rainbow Wraparound staff will also tell you what has happened. If it is necessary for a child to be collected after an injury, parents will be contacted as described above.
Our Play Leader and Play Workers all have Level 3 Paediatric First Aid accreditation.
